Before the Civil War. Fascism and the Second Republic
In this video we will talk about the situation of Spain before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. On the one hand, we will talk about Fascism and, on the other hand, we will treat the Second Spanish Republic.
Europe was in a period between the wars. This Europe is divided between democracies and dictatorships. At that moment, Fascism is born.
The Fascism It is a totalitarian political and social movement that was produced in Italy by Benito Mussolini after the First World War. Fascism has a strong patriotic, nationalist feeling.
At that time, Spain was in a democratic political regime, the Second Spanish Republic that existed from April 14, 1931 until the culmination of the Spanish Civil War, on April 1, 1939.
The Second Republic was divided into three different phases of government:
- Period of provisional governments (April to December 1931)
- The Left-wing or Republican-Socialist Biennium (December 1931 to November 1933)
- Right-wing or radical-cedista biennium (November 1933 to February 1936)
During the first period of the Second republic there were a series of problems that needed to be solved and therefore they were made different reforms:
- agrarian reform
- military reform
- education reform
- reform that separated the Church from the State.
The implementation of all these reforms created many conflicts, especially with the Church.
