Who was Jan Hus

In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain "Who was Jan Hus".

Who was Jan Hus. Jan Hus born in 1370 and died in 1415. He was a Czech philosopher and theologian who became rector of the University of Prague. He was a reformer and preacher considered a forerunner of the Lutheran Reformation. That is, he laid the foundations for some time later (a century later) Martin Luther he will initiate the Protestant reform of the church.

As we have said, he died condemned and at the stake. Let's go into his biography a little bit. He was born into a poor family but always stood out for his piety and his religious fervor. So much so, that he was allowed to study out of charity at the university of prague. That is, as he lacked financial means and when he saw that he was emerging intellectually, he was offered a place to study at said university where he graduated in philosophy and theology. Arriving as he said before, with time, to be the rector of said university.

In 1400 he was ordained a priest and it is from here that he comes into controversy with the ecclesiastical hierarchy. Well, Jan Hus realizes how the church of the moment is, he disagrees a lot and not only disagrees but also intends to change it. What are the main ideas of Jan Hus? Perhaps the first and most important is that

Christ is the head of the church, not the pope or his cardinals. He enacts a poor church and is totally against and highly critical of the sale of indulgences. Therefore, what he promotes and proposes is that disobedience towards the church. He says that priests live in sin. In addition, for him, the church was everyone (the members and the believers). He did not believe that an intermediary between each person and God was necessary. The church, apart from being corrupt, was useless. I further postulate that the pope, due to his corruption and his multiple sins, was the reincarnation of the antichrist.
