What is the Bauhaus
In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain "What is the Bauhaus".
What is the Bauhaus. The Bauhaus was a school of architecture, design, crafts and art founded in 1919 on Germany for Walter Gropius. This school intended the reform of artistic teachings as a basis for the transformation of the bourgeois society of the time. As you can see, we are in 1919 and Germany has just lost the First World War and what they want is; Through this school of art and crafts, reform German society. The Bauhaus school, you have to understand that laid the foundations of what we know today as graphic design and industrial design. One of the maxims of the Bauhaus school was that form follows function. Namely; I know design objects based on function that is going to play. That is, beauty is not sought for beauty, but rather; an object must first of all be useful. An object must be made thinking about the functionality that it is going to give it. The objectives of the school were; the recovery of artisanal methods of production. They wanted crafts to be equated with fine arts and above all they wanted their productions (their objects) to be affordable for the general population. Some of the members of the Bauhaus school were; of course, the founder of the school
Walter Gropius, Paul Klee, Vasili Kandinsky, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and many others. Very powerful and very important people. Until 1933, with the rise of the Nazi party in Germany, they decide to close the school because it seems to them that it collides with those who wanted what the Nazis wanted. Many of the members went into exile to the United States and there they continued to develop their ideas. To know the subject in more depth, do not miss the complete video on "What is the Bauhaus" and practice with the exercises that we leave you below.
