Psychiatrist PH. D Immunology
I am dedicated to researching and treating patients whose psychiatric symptoms are the consequence of medical and particularly immunological illnesses. The classic model of integration between body and mind and the old empirical references with which it was tried to explain how mental disorders could contribute to the development of chronic medical diseases, have been displaced by a body of theories and scientific evidence that make up Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatics. Thus, for example, the pro-inflammatory effects that can lead to Arthritis or Multiple Sclerosis or cancer-associated immunosuppression that occurs in patients suffering from Depression. Similarly, the effect of antidepressants is recognized as adjuvants in the treatment of inflammatory diseases, autoimmunity, neuropathic pain, as well as the regulatory effect on dysfunctions of metabolism, appetite, digestion and activity sexual. This area of knowledge, referred to as Psychoimmunology, is under development and now provides a new approach to the treatment of immune and mental diseases.
