Solve First Degree Equations with Fractions

In this video I will explain how to solve first degree equations with fractions. When we are faced with an equation with fractions we will have to eliminate them in order to make the equation correctly.

A equation is a mathematical equality between two mathematical expressions, called members, in which known elements and unknown or unknown data appear, related through mathematical operations.

How to solve equations with fractions becomes much easier if you remove the denominators and turn it into an equation with only whole numbers. In order to remove fractions from an equation we will have to do the least common multiple or lcm between the denominators of the equation.

In case you come across a numerator with a polynomial, nothing changes in the process of how equations with fractions are solved.

In this example we show you how to solve a first degree equation with fractions so that you can see it more easily:

Here you can see step by step what would be the process to solve the equation:

As you have already seen in the previous example, the unknown elements are called X, therefore, the objective of an equation is find the value of X and in the case of equations with fractions we must simplify the equation to be able to solve it with number integers.

In this case, first the least common multiple or LCM of the denominators has been obtained, which is 2 and, thus, we can eliminate the denominator of both fractions. In this way we have a 3 in front of the nominator of the first fraction and in the second fraction only the X of the nominator remains. In this way, an equation without fractions has been left and it is now easier to solve.

If this example has not been very clear to you, calm down, because in the video you will see another example explained by our teacher so that you can easily learn how to solve the first degree equation with fractions.

The known values of an equation can be numbers, coefficients, or constants; also variables or even complex objects such as functions or vectors, unknown elements can be established by other equations of a system, or some other equations.

I explain this to you much better in the video through examples. Also, if you want to practice what you learned in this lesson from a Teacher, you can do the printable exercises with their solutions that I have left you on the web.
