Diprogenta: what is it?

It receives the name of diprogenta a powerful drug with numerous effects on human skin and that is used in treatment of various skin diseases. It is a substance composed mainly of betamethasone dipropionate and gentamicin sulfate, the first being a type of corticosteroid and the second an aminoglycoside antibiotic with an effect on different bacteria.

Side effects

Among the side effects that result from excessively prolonged use and in very large areas of the body, atrophy and cracking of the skin, dryness or maceration of the skin (weakening and softening of the skin) stand out. skin), inflammation of hair follicles, allergic reactions, infections, redness, acne and skin rashes, stretch marks or appearance of hair.

Other more serious side effects would include alterations not only in the skin but in other systems and even in the development process in minors (being able to reach delay growth): can cause suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, hyperglycemia (very serious, especially in diabetic patients), hypertension blood and intracranial, worsening glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, cholesterol, ulcer, cataracts, blurred vision, alopecia, drop in blood potassium level or even syndrome Cushing's. It can also affect the kidneys and liver, and its prolonged use is toxic.

It is contraindicated in children under twelve years of age, and its use in those who have reached that age must be done with great caution. due to possible disruption of the endocrine system and hormonal since it could have important effects on its development.

It is also contraindicated in the case of pregnant women (especially in the first trimester) and lactating unless the benefits outweigh the possible risks, given that although there are not enough data in humans in this regard, it has been shown that it can cause alterations in the fetus in rats.

Obviously this product should not be used if you are allergic to its components. It should not be used against fungal or viral infections either., in case of tuberculosis or syphilis, in oral, ocular or genital inflammations, in reactions to vaccines or in deep wounds.

Likewise, the use of this product in large areas should be avoided, its use in areas covered with bandages or in areas of the skin with a large number of folds, and its use should be especially avoided prolonged. Its use in psoriasis, although it may be an indication for diprogenta, must be extremely controlled and performed under supervision. Finally, mixing it with substances that may interact with it is not recommended.
