5 self defense techniques for women

According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, the number of sexual abuse and harassment in Spain has grown at an alarming rate in recent years. This dramatic reality reflects a basic problem in society, not an accumulation of isolated cases. For this reason, we must continue working to raise awareness and educate future generations about aggressive sexual behaviors. While we try to put a stop to this scourge, we offer you 5 self defense techniques for women.

It is very important to emphasize this point: any woman should have enough freedom not to have to remember defense techniques. These 5 that we expose next are a mere example of how to defend oneself, not some obligatory movements that must be learned to the letter.

5 self defense tricks for women

The first thing to consider is that it doesn't matter how big the attacker is. Everyone has weak or tender spots, including the eyes, nose, throat, chest, knees, and genitals.

1. If she approaches head on

If the aggressor is in front of you and surrounds you with her arms, there are two things you can do. The first one is

hit his nose with your head. This will cause him to be shocked and surround you with less force. Take the opportunity to escape and, if necessary, knee him in the genitals.

2. If you are against a wall

If an attacker tries to pin a woman against a wall, supporting both hands, there are several things the victim can do. In the event that you have enough space between you and him, prepare your fist in front of your stomach and deliver a strong punch to his chin. This will cause him to recoil and be knocked out long enough to be able to escape.

3. If he takes you by the hands

If the attacker grabs both of your hands, he tries to find the weakest point in his hands, which is usually where the thumb and forefinger meet. Turn your wrist in a circle and work your way through this small hole with all your might. When you have a free hand, you can hit one of his weak spots, like his nose or his genitals.

4. If he grabs you by the side

If the aggressor approaches from the side and puts his arms around you, the best thing you can do is hitting your face and even your nose with your elbow. Then hit his stomach again with your elbow and knock him out of the game.

5. If he catches you from behind

In the event that you do not see the aggressor and he approaches you from behind, surrounding you with both arms, the first thing you should do is jerking your head back, hitting your nose or chin. If the aggressor is slightly shocked, take the opportunity to find his leg between yours and pull forward. This will cause it to fall dramatically and give you time to escape.

As we have highlighted before, we cannot offer advice of the type “do not go alone to public places” as it would restrict the freedom of women. Instead, we must educate young people about sexist violence and prevent them from developing such behaviors.
