How to get a long lasting nail polish

Keep these tips for your manicure in mind if you want to keep your nails perfect for longer.

1. First of all, take care of your nails

If we want to achieve a durable nail polish, first of all we must take care of the base on which we will paint. It is important that the nails are soft and smooth so that the paint adheres well and no bubbles appear, as well as avoid the future appearance of cracks and make the enamel last longer.

For this, it is recommended to file the surface of the nails and always do it in the same direction, never up and down. Try to file them only when they are dry, since if they have been previously soaked you run the risk of spoiling them.

Also avoid cutting the cuticles or painting on top, as this will promote chipping. If you want to take care of them, there are special oils for sealing that will give them a healthier and more aesthetic appearance.

2. Do a good cleaning before applying the polish

To achieve the desired long-lasting nail polish, we must apply it only if the nails are perfectly clean and dry. It is advisable to clean them with nail polish remover even if we do not have them painted, since in this way We will eliminate any impurities that prevent a good adhesion of the enamel.

If you don't have nail polish remover or want a more natural cleaning, a good trick is to give it a wipe of vinegar with a cotton ball, which will have the same cleaning effect.

It is recommended to keep the nails clean and without polish for a couple of days before repainting, to promote perspiration and hydration and make them look healthier. In any case, avoid keeping them in water for a long time before painting them, since once the nails dry they will shrink and the enamel will lose its shape.

3. Do not dispense with a previous protector

Once they have been cleaned and dried, it is time to protect your nails with a protective primer polish. If you want to achieve a durable nail polish, you should not do without this step, since the protector allows a greater adhesion of the paint and keeps them protected. They also provide vitamins that strengthen and keep them healthy.

For good protection, apply one coat to the top half of the nail and a second coat that takes up the entire nail. If you are looking for a longer lasting polish, don't forget to cover the top edge of the nail, as this will ensure that the entire surface is covered and will take longer to flake at the tip.

4. Don't shake the polish

The enamel pot is usually shaken to homogenize and aerate the paint before applying it, but this can create annoying air bubbles that will then pass to our nails. To avoid this, roll it between your hands instead of waving it up and down.

5. Apply the polish in thin layers

Once the primer has dried, it is time to apply the enamel to add color. The best trick to achieving a long-lasting nail polish is to apply it in thin layers instead of painting a very thick one. We will apply a very thin first coat to avoid bubbles or lumps on the surface.

Once dry we will apply a second final coat, also thin, but which will finish covering the nail. In this case it is also recommended to cover well the edge of the upper tip of the nail, to prevent flaking longer.

6. Complete with a top coat

Another essential step to make our nail polish last longer is to apply a layer of top coat. The top coat is a transparent protective varnish that protects the enamel layer color and adds shine.

It is recommended not to wait long to apply it once we have finished with the enamel, since its effects they will last longer if they are diluted with the color layer, thus achieving more nails resistant.

7. Cold to dry before

Drying your nails thoroughly is one of the most important (and boring) parts of the process, as any little touch will spoil the enamel in complete safety. We can advance the process with a few tricks, but you have to know them.

A widespread false belief is that by drying the nails with a dryer we advance the process. But nothing could be further from the truth, since the hot air prevents the enamel from drying outand. To dry it more quickly we will have to choose to put the dryer in cold air mode or use a fan.

Another trick is to keep your fingertips in ice water for a minute or two. This will help them dry more quickly. Also keep in mind that if there is humidity in the environment, you will have to wait a little longer for them to dry completely. We will not achieve a long-lasting nail polish if it is damaged as soon as the manicure is performed. Patience!

8. More top coat to keep

Another trick to keep the nail polish for a longer time will be to apply a new layer of polish from time to time. top coat, to maintain the seal of the nail and not to lose its shine. It is advisable to do it every two or three days.

9. If you have to repaint, let it be on a smooth surface

If they have faded and we do not have time to start the process again, also we can reapply a thin layer of enamel. But before doing so, it is important to remove any bumps or bubbles that may have remained. For this we can use a cotton bud to remove these remains, and then repaint the worn part with a thin layer.

10. Avoid prolonged contact with water

Keep our hands under water for a long time, especially if it is very hot, it will facilitate the deterioration of the enamel. To avoid this and contact with other substances that can be too aggressive, it is best to use gloves if, for example, we have to wash dishes.

11. Use mild soap

Another tip for maintaining long-lasting nail polish is to swap hand sanitizer for mild soap. Hand sanitizers they help the nails become too dry and damage the protective layer.

12. Use moisturizers and protectants

In the same way that we needed to take good care of the nails before applying the polish, maintaining this care will also favor a longer duration. That is why it is recommended to use special oils for nails to keep them hydrated and avoid annoying cuticle skins that can spoil our manicure.
