As for the origin of him, it is said that he was one of the Refaim, but he struggled with the philistines, so it is thought that he could be a kind of mercenary soldier. The Battle of Goliath and David.

To continue with this lesson on the history of David and Goliath we must talk about the confrontation between both characters. Both arrived in the way we have commented, David as the one chosen by God to succeed Saul, although too young for it. And Goliath as a mercenary soldier of the Philistines, who had never lost any battle.

The war between Israelites and Philistines it came to a point when the armies of both sides met face to face. Goliath was the best soldier of both armies so he decided to send a challenge to the opposite side, He challenged any member of Israel to a one-on-one match, the winner deciding the fate of the war. Goliath performed the challenge for 40 days, but no one in the army of Israel had the courage to face him, not even King Saul, the one who for years had been anointed by God.

David had just arrived at the camp, as his father asked him to bring food and water to his brothers, who were members of the army of Israel. David had already been blessed by God as a future king, but no one knew about this situation, this being the reason why everyone was surprised when the little shepherd was the only one with the courage to face Goliath.

David went directly to Saul to ask him to fight the giant, the king of Israel was afraid that he would be the one to face Goliath, so he decided to accept that David was the one to face him. Saul gave his armor to David, but his clothing was gigantic, so he decided to face Goliath with his shepherd's clothing, armed only with a sling that he used to bring down the beasts that tried to eat the flock.

Once face to face Goliath laughed, seeing that his rival was only a very short young man, but David loudly proclaimed that he came with the power of God. David threw a stone with his sling, hitting Goliath on the head and killing him. To the surprise of the spectators, David cut off the giant's head with his own sword, proclaiming the victory of Israel.

David's victory over Goliath showed that Saul was no longer worthy as God's representative, not having dared to face the giant. David was still late in being named king, but his victory over Goliath caused him to be respected by all the people of Israel.
