History of the American colonists
In this video I will explain the history of the american colonists and how they got to the shores of the United States.
Many settlers after the discovery of Christopher Columbus went to know the New World but only 70% survived.
A very important character is John Rolfe (1612), an English settler who decided to grow tobacco seeds in James town and this made the settlement very prosperous. John Rolfe married the daughter of the chief of the Pawthan tribe, the well-known Pocahontas.
James Town (what today would be the shores of Virginia) became the first prosperous city in North America thanks to John's idea of tobacco growing.
10 years after John arrived in America, another group of settlers, with their ship Mayflower (1620), landed on a desert beach and made the settlement of Plymouth (Massachusetts). These settlers were Puritans and wanted to spread their religion in the New World. These colonists were very important since more than 10% of the population of the United States descended from them.
American settlers years ago brought the plague to America and killed many indigenous people. The Pokanoket, a tribe close to the Plymouth settlement, did not want war and taught the Pilgrims to cultivate the land. In addition, they allied with them to destroy another enemy indigenous tribe. To seal their friendship the pilgrims and the Pokanoket shared a dinner and hence the origin of the Thanksgiving dinner.
The descendants of James Town and Plymouth began to colonize the entire Atlantic coast working agriculture and livestock among others.
