Development of the American War of Independence
In this video I will explain the development of the War of Independence of the United States.
There were two very different camps: the British Empire or the Redcoats and the American Empire or the continental or militia army.
Here are some of the dates that were important:
- 1775: a large group of redcoats go to Lexington to apprehend the revolutionary leaders who were already notified of their arrival. There was a battle and many deaths. The other colonies joined and fought against the British Empire. Here began the War of Independence.
- In June 1776 New York was preparing to defend itself against the largest invasion in American history. George Washington was appointed commander of the rebel army and had already succeeded in driving the English out of Boston.
- On June 29, 1776, 45 British warships were too close to Manhathan Island to terrorize the American rebels.
- On July 2, 1776, a crisis cabinet met in the city of Philadelphia, the Continental Congress. Here the independence of the American colonies with respect to the English Empire was debated.
- On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence of the United States. Two basic principles were collected for every person: freedom and equality.
- On July 12, 1776, two British ships opened fire on New York. Hundreds more ships arrived and it was the largest deployment in British history until the Normandy landings.
- In September 1776 New York City was attacked. George Washington's army withdrew.
- On September 20, New York City burned under British rule. George Washington led the fight inland.
- June 1777 began the Saratoga campaign, consisting of more than 8000 men of the British army who were headed south from Canada and was led by John Bourbon who sought to divide the American states into two parts.
- Battle of Saratoga (September 19 to October 17, 1777)
