The revolutionary movement in the United States
In this video I will explain to you the beginning of the tensions that existed before the war of Independence of the United States was declared, that is, the revolutionary movement in the United States.
The 13 English colonies that existed along the Atlantic coast were the ones that began the disputes for the independence of the United States. On May 9, 1768 in Boston, tensions began between both sides (the English colonists and the Americans).
Boston became a city occupied by the English army (redcoats). For the English, the American colonies were a vital point of the British Empire. Only Boston, it meant more than 40% of the total exports of the United Kingdom.
March 5, 1770, the boston massacre. It originated when a crowd took to the streets of Boston. That night 3 Americans passed away. These facts were represented by the engraver Paul Revere which turned the massacre into anti-British propaganda.
Benjamin Franklin, general manager of the post office, established a new postal service, the so-called night riders.
In 1773 the British Government revoked all taxes except tea. In an act of resistance, the rebels threw more than a million dollars worth of tea into Boston Harbor, the Tea Riot.
The British Empire had forbidden to pass the proclamation line separating British territory from Native American territory, they could not expand beyond the 13 colonies.
On September 5, 1774, the first continental congress in Philadelphia, and this was the first step towards American Independence. George Washington was key in this congress. They concluded that the British attack on a colony would be like any of the other colonies. There was beginning to be no distinction between colonies, they were all North American.
In 1775 Isaac davis he began to instruct the militias of the cities of America that were a unit of civil protection. They were beginning to prepare to fight the redcoats. In April 1775, 900 Redcoats made their way to Lexington to arrest the rebel leaders of the American settlers. Paul Revere, the recorder alerted the city's militias. 60 militiamen faced hundreds of redcoats. This conflict in Lexington ended with 8 deaths.
All this, I explain it better in the video and more detailed. Also, if you want to check that you have understood, you can do the eprintable exercises with their solutions from the revolutionary movement in the United States.
