What was the Sad Night of Cortés

In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain "What was the Sad Night of Cortés".

What was the Sad Night of Cortés. As we know, Cortés with his army had left the Caribbean islands to reach the continent and meet the Aztec civilization.La Noche Triste de Cortés is the name by which we know the defeat suffered by the Spanish army of Cortés at the hands of the Mexican army in Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec empire (today, Mexico City) on July 1, 1520. Well, as we know, Cortés had reached the continent and in November 1519 Cortés with his army arrived in the city of Tenochtitlan. Spaniards are hosted by Moctezuma in the palace of Xayacatl to have them controlled. In fact, after a while there is a skirmish near Veracruz between the Aztecs and a few Spanish soldiers along with their allies. Cortés gets very angry and what he does is take Moctezuma prisoner (in the very palace where they were lodged) and asks (forces him) to hand over the leaders of that skirmish that had taken place near Veracruz. Moctezuma is reluctant at first but when he is surrounded by Spaniards, he accepts, surrenders the leaders and they are executed. A short time later, Cortés is forced to leave

Tenochtitlan, since from the capital of the Caribbean islands, they have sent an army to the head of Panfilo de Narvaez Thus, they accuse Cortés of exceeding his powers. What happens is that Cortés manages to defeat Panfilo de Narvaez and part of Panfilo's army joins Cortés. When Cortés is forced to leave, he leaves about 80 soldiers in the capital (under the command of a captain) to keep the palace and to allow them to return.
