Development of the Second Industrial Revolution
In this video I will explain to you what the Second Industrial Revolution. The second Industrial Revolution was an expansion of the First Industrial Revolution. In addition, this second revolution will not only have technological advances, but also scientific ones.
Historians place it from 1850 (end of the First Industrial Revolution) until the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
In this Industrial Revolution the great world powers were Germany, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.
The characteristics of the Second Industrial Revolution are as follows:
- the substitution of iron for steel in industry.
- the replacement of steam by electricity and petroleum derivatives as a source of energy.
- the introduction of automatic machinery for directing and operating other machines.
- development of transport and communication systems.
- growing mastery and application of science to industry.
There were many important inventions at that time: diesel engine, cinema, electricity, railroad, boiler-powered ship, airplane, ...
In the scientific field there were also many discoveries:
- Charles Darwin's theory of the evolution of species
- the hygiene methods of Joseph Lister
- Robert koch discovered the bacteria that caused tuberculosis
- the pasteurization of Louis Pasteur
- the phone by Alexander Graham Bell
- Karl Benz invented the first gasoline powered automobile
- bayer's aspirin
