The wind's shadow presents us with a Gothic and mysterious Barcelona in the year 1945. Daniel's father takes him to a mysterious place: the cemetery of forgotten books. There the little one chooses a book that will change his life forever; the book is titled The wind's shadow and it is written by the author Julian Carax. This book fascinates Daniel, so he grows obsessed with knowing more about the meaning of the book and the author of it.

At one point in the novel, little Daniel discovers that all the books that Julián Carax wrote were burned by one of the novel characters. That is when, accompanied by his friend Fermín, the protagonist will try to discover what the mystery is behind that be enigmatic that burned all the books of his favorite author.

Introduction: The cemetery of forgotten books.

This chapter summary of The wind's shadow starts with a introduction to the history. Daniel lives with his parents above the bookstore that his father runs.

One day, Daniel's father takes him to cemetery of forgotten books: a large bookstore located in the Raval neighborhood, where Daniel chooses the book that most catches his attention (The wind's shadow) and takes it home to read all night.

Part 1: Ash Days.

Daniel, amazed by the book, shows up at the "Els Quatre Gats" café where he meets Gustavo Barceló. This renowned writings explain to Daniel that the book that he holds in his hands is the single specimen author's existing Julian Carax. So, together with Clara, Gustavo's niece, they begin to investigate this mysterious author of the shadow of the wind.

The story continues on the day of Daniel's 16th birthday, Clara does not show up to the party and he storms out to wander the streets of Barcelona. Part 4: City of Shadows.

Daniel goes to the hat shop in search of more information and meets a woman who tells him that Fortuny is dead, but that she can show him her house. Upon entering the room that once belonged to Carax, they find plenty of satanic symbols that he had hung her father on the wall, in addition to mistreating him because he said he was the son of the devil.

In that same room he discovers a photo of Penelope with a loving inscription, So, he sets out to find the woman to gather more information. On the same day, Daniel takes Bea to the cemetery of forgotten books and she chooses a book, they finally fall in love and kiss right there.

In a few days their relationship progresses and when they are making love in a bathroom of Bea's abandoned house, they hear some loud noises and a voice who yells at them to get out of there, they obey in a hurry. The following days Daniel continues with the investigation alone, because Fermín, his assistant, is in hiding because the police falsely accuse him of the murder of Nuria Monfort.

Part 5: Núria Monfort. Appearance memory.

Daniel goes to the house of Isaac Monfort, the father of the late Nuria Monfort and he tells him that he has a whole letter that explains Nuria's life since she was born, written by herself. Daniel takes it home and reads and investigates it completely. In it he discovers various relationships with the writer Julián Carax.

Part 6: The Shadow of the Wind.

Daniel feels very identified by the love story that Núria tells in her letter, so he goes in search of Bea. When he arrives at her house, her brother tells him that she is pregnant and that it has been two days since she left and the police are looking for her.

Daniel runs to Aldany's house where he knows that he will find her and he is, but what he does not know is who have followed him and want to kill him, after a very violent fight, Daniel is wounded by a bullet and Julian Carax appears out of darkness to help him by killing the enemy.

Part 7: Post Mortem.

Daniel wakes up in the hospital after being unconscious for 8 days. His father and Bea have been taking care of him daily, but one moment when they leave him alone, Julián Carax enters and they have a conversation. Daniel urges Carax.

Part 8: The waters of March and Part 9: Dramatis Personae.

Daniel and Bea decide to get married and both his bachelor party and the wedding are narrated.

Ten years later, Fermín is in charge of the cemetery of forgotten books and Daniel runs the bookstore of his father along with Bea and they have a boy named Julián. One day a book arrives for Daniel, dedicated exclusively to him and signed with an unknown pseudonym. This is when Daniel realizes that Julián Carax has returned to writing.
