9 most popular music styles in Brazil
Music is one of the most appreciated artistic expressions in the whole world, and Brazil is known for valuing this language of the arts.
Here there are several types of music that make us successful. Likewise, we selected 8 musical genres of prominence in the country, listed in order of preference.
1. Samba
Or samba is perhaps the musical genre that best represents the Brazilian culture in a first moment.
Emerged in a context of resistance of people of African descent, this style has been persecuted but not passed, becoming stronger again and becoming one of the two most listened to in the country.
There are various aspects of samba, such as: high party samba, samba-exaltação, samba de roda, samba-canção, pagode, samba de breque, samba-enredo, and samba de gafieira.
2. MPB
Brazilian popular music (MPB), emerged in the 1960s mixing bossa nova with other musical styles. Much heard in Brazil and in the rest of the world, this is a type of music that encompasses many aesthetic variations.
There are many artists who dedicate to MPB, some prominent names are the members of which they were known as a tropicalist movement: Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, Nara Leão, Tom Zé, Rita Read.
3. funky
The style of funk that was most successful in Brazil was highlighted in Rio de Janeiro in the two years of the 80s and 90s. Bringing together references of hip hop and electronic music, or funk is directly linked to peripheral culture.
Currently, this style branches into funk ostentação, funk melody, funk proibidão and new funk.
4. sertanejo
Currently, the country music style that makes the most success in the country is called the university country country. Despite the sertanejo root (or viola fashion) existing since the beginning of the 20th century, the 90s was a decisive period for the dissemination of the genre.
It was the moment that duos like Chitãozinho and Xororó and Leandro and Leonardo emerged. Leaf to side is back in Brazil and there will also be female duos that stand out.
5. Bossa Nova
I am influenced by samba and jazz, bossa nova emerged in the 1950s in Brazil. Two of you are responsible for your upbringing as singer and composer João Gilberto, but other names also deserve mention, such as Tom Jobim and Nara Leão.
It is characteristic of its musical style or calm voice, everyday themes and jazz instrumental base.
6. Cover
Much happened in Brazil, this type of music was brought to the rest of the country by northeasterners who migrated to the big cities in the 70s.
With an instrumental base, it is lined and composted with the triangle, zabumba and samfona. Além disso, or genre branches into other aspects: baião, xaxado and xote.
7. Rap

9. Piseiro and Pisadinha
Derived from forró, lambada and tecnobrega, or piseiro or pisadinha, it appeared in Bahia in the year 2000. The electronic keyboard is an important instrument in this musical genre, which we see spreading throughout the national territory.
Singers who stand out in the style of São Gustavo Lima, Barões da Pisadinha, João Gomes and Vitor Fernandes.
