Meaning of the Book Strawberry fields

What is the Strawberry Fields Book:

The book Strawberry fields written in 1997 by the Catalan Spaniard Jordi Sierra i Fabra (1947) tells the story of a group of teenagers that face the bulimia and drug use problem like irresponsible fun.

The title of the book was inspired by the group's song The Beatles composed by John Lennon called "Strawberry Fields Forever" translated as "Strawberry Fields Forever". The song refers to the strawberry field as a place to escape from existential problems such as suggests the lyrics of the song like nothing is real, living is easy with your eyes closed or it's hard to be someone.

The book consists of 94 short chapters and an epilogue called "White wins game, Black loses game". Chapters of Strawberry fields suggest a chess game as a reference to the departure of life against death where life wins. It is also an allusion to Luciana a great chess player and protagonist of the book that she is in a coma from consuming an ecstasy pill.

Book summary Strawberry fields

Luciana was always responsible. She helped her best friend Loreto with his bulimia problem It has become common and very dangerous among teenagers.

One day, Luciana is tempted to try one ecstasy pill and it runs all very bad. Luciana falls into a coma and the friends go through the city looking for the camel that sold them the pill to find out what it contained in an attempt to save her.

Luciana with her friends Cinta, Santi and Máximo went one night to Pandora’s where was Raúl, a friend of theirs who used pills when he left the parties. Raúl was the one who got with the camel Poli García an ecstasy pill with a marked crescent for Luciana to try.

Eloy, Luciana's boyfriend, began an odyssey to find the camel. With the help of Cinta, Máximo and Santi went to the disco Popes where the camel was supposed to be Poli Garcia.

The inspector Espinós in charge of investigating Luciana's case also knew that the camel was going to be at the Popes nightclub so he asked that reinforcements wait outside the nightclub.

Poli García runs out of the nightclub chased by Eloy, Máximo, Santi, Cinta and two policemen. The frightened and distracted camel slips in pursuit, falling to the ground with a fatal blow to the head. The bag of pills Poli was carrying falls into a nearby sewer.

When all hopes were gone, Cinta opened the palm of her hand showing a pill with an engraved crescent while she said: "-He must have dropped it while running."

Luciana is torn between life and death. But her willpower makes her keep her eyes open and not head down the dark tunnel of death.
