In Spanish the words have a certain accentuation. It is different depending on what point we put the intonation strength of every word. The accentuation can be marked by using accents or not and there are different types of it taking into account where the stressed syllable of the word is located. First of all we must know what the accent and what types of accentuation exist. The accent is the major intensity with which one of the syllables is pronounced that appear in every word. On which syllable this force falls is called stressed syllable and the rest of them are considered unstressed syllables. The stressed syllables may be indicated by a tilde that will indicate where the strength of the syllables is.

Depending on the position that the stressed syllable takes within the word in question, we can speak of three types of accentuations:

  • Wordssharp: its stressed syllable is always on the last syllable.
  • Sdrugal words: stress is on the third to last syllable.

These cases are very easy to identify since they are the adverbs that end in –mente. In other words, when we come across a word of this type, it is very likely that it does not have an accent in the place we think or does not directly carry it even though it is esdrújula.

Adverbs ending in -mind They are always accentuated taking into account the accentuation of the original word, that is, when placing the accent in them we must always do so ignoring the existence of the ending -mind. In order to understand it better, let's see some examples:
