The Gauls were a group of celtic towns who populated the area of ​​central Europe on 450 BC C., from where they emigrated to other areas of the continent. Its main area of ​​influence was between the Seine and Garonne rivers, being the region we usually refer to when talking about the Gauls.

We continue learning about the history of the Gauls of France by talking about the first relations between the Gauls and the Romans, who were born in the 2nd century BC. C., when both regions began to have trade pacts. In these pacts the Roman Republic gave protection to the southern Gauls, as long as they left them land to create a road that would connect Rome with Hispania. Even so, the relations of the Romans with the northern Gauls were not so good, and for decades the Romans and these Gauls faced each other in numerous battles.

It was from 58 BC. C., when relations between Romans and Gauls began to get complicated. Rome had begun a series of expansions that had put much of Hispania in its hands, and its next The idea of ​​expansion was to conquer the region of the Gauls. At this point the figure of the well-known appears Julius Caesar, who had been appointed governor of the Transalpine and Cisalpine Gaul area. As the decades passed, the destiny of the Gallic peoples was to assimilate into Roman culture, or to join to Germanic beliefs, both being very different from the Celtic cultures from which the Gauls.
