What is the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Strip is a coastal territory located in the eastern Mediterranean, with a rich and complex history. Historically, it has been inhabited by different civilizations, including Egyptians, Philistines, Romans and Ottomans.

At first, the first settlers were the Canaanites, being the ones who established the first medium-sized cities. When the Canaanites and the Egyptians clashed, the Gaza area was taken by the Egyptians, who at that time were the most powerful town in the area. The rule of the Egyptians was maintained about 350 years, until they were conquered by the Philistines, who placed one of their main cities in Gaza.

Over the years, the Gaza area was conquered by two of the great empires of the time, first being taken by the Assyrian Empire, and later being another conquest of Alexander the Great and Macedonia. After Alexander's death, the city changed hands regularly between Alexander's two successor dynasties, the Ptolemy of Egypt and the Seleucids of Syria.

With the arrival of the Romans, Gaza city was rebuilt by Pompey and given to Herod. During the Roman government, the city was able to rebuild and grow, becoming one of the main cities of the time in the area.

With the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Gaza became part of the eastern region, in a period in which Christianity began to settle in the region. For a time, Gaza was one of the main cities of the Byzantines, although with the passing of the years and the loss of influence of the empire it declined until it was a much less important city.

Little by little, the population of Gaza he converted to Islam and in the 7th century they were conquered by the Muslims. Because of all this, a great conflict was born between Christians and Muslims to conquer the region, causing part of the crusades took place in the area and that, for a time, the government of Gaza was in the hands of the crusaders.

All these changes in government and wars caused the city to lose its great power, and over the centuries it became a city in ruins with an inactive port.

In the 16th century, the Ottoman Empire, which was in full swing, took the city to add it to his powerful empire. It was at this moment that Gaza was able to believe, undergoing a transformation that turned the city into a great point of Muslim beliefs.
