Accentuation of sharp words
The orthography takes care of the correct writing. In Spanish there are many spelling rules and from this video we are going to discuss them. First of all, we will start with the general rules of accentuation.
In this video, I will show you the accentuation rules for acute words. First of all, it must be remembered that acute words are those that have the stressed syllable in the last syllable, that is, the syllable that is pronounced with the greatest intensity is the last. Sharp words will carry graphic accent or accent mark in the following cases:
- when they finish in vocal
- when they finish in n
- when they finish in s
These rules have some exceptions:
- If the words are monosyllables (they have only one syllable) will not be stressed unless you have to use the diacritical tilde to differentiate them from other words with the same shape.
- words that end in n or s but are preceded by a consonant will not be stressed either.
- remember that y is not a vowel. Therefore, words ending in and will not be accented.
With the video you will better understand this explanation through examples. In addition, I have prepared some printable exercises with solutions so that you can put these rules of accentuation of sharp words.
