Julian

Mr. Pedro
Don Pedro is the owner of the Pazos and a central character in the play. He does not have a noble title, although he calls himself a marquis. He has an illegitimate son with Sabel, the daughter of his servant and cook, although he later marries Marcelina or Nucha, a cousin of Santiago. The marquis is rude, has bad manners, mistreats women and disposes of his lands and those who inhabit them at his free will. He is very influenced by a rural environment that has brutalized him.
Primitive
Don Pedro's servant, the marquis. In reality, he is the one who manages life in the Shadow Pazos. He steals money from her master, he is the father of Sabel, the cook, and grandfather of Perucho, her illegitimate son and the owner of the place. He is a dark man, cunning, with a bad character, illiterate, but very ambitious, with the intention that his grandson inherit from him, and even with interests in politics. He is cold and calculating.
Sabel
The Cook, daughter of Primitivo and mother of Perucho. Lover of the marquis, he receives beatings from him. However, she is calculating and has intentions towards the inheritance of the Pazos, which she wishes for herself and for hers, her son.
Perucho
The illegitimate son of the Marquis and Sabel, grandson of Primitivo. A beautiful child, but always dirty and messy. He's a thief, barely educated, and runs any kind of errands, even if they aren't too legal. However, he has a sweet touch, and he feels misunderstood, although he is swept away by the environment around him.
Nucha
High class lady, called Marcelina, daughter of M. de la Lage. She marries Don Pedro, but falls ill after becoming pregnant by him. She has a lot of faith, she is calm and submissive, and she endures when she comes on top of her. He does not complain about his sorrows or fears, and relies heavily on Julián, the parish priest.
