Literary naturalism born at the end of the 19th century, perhaps as a movement opposed to romantic literature, which had had great force in Europe since the late eighteenth century. In contrast to this, the style and descriptions were prolific in detail and focused primarily on the lower and disadvantaged classes of society.

In naturalistic novels it was common to establish the environment, both in cities and rural environments, which he was an oppressor on the human being, with an enormous capacity to brutalize and bring out the worst in each individual. In fact, it is considered as a evolution of realism, but going further, trying to expose human behavior caused by the social environment, which leads them to behave according to their impulses.

Vicente Blasco Ibáñez

It is now the turn of another of the greats of the movement, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. He was born in 1867 and was dedicated to journalism, literature and politics from a young age. His work stood out for narrating with enough mastery the social conflicts of his time between the poor and working classes and the privileged.

Among his novels he powerfully stands out The barrack, but also others like Mare Nostum or The four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Leopoldo Alas "Clarín"

He was born in 1852 and is dedicated to philosophy, law and letters. Thanks to his multiple literary, philosophical and political articles, he ended up being one of the clearest and most critical minds of his time.

Within his much narrative dedicated above all to the description of the human interior, the ironic and naturalistic touch of The Regent.

Benito Pérez Galdós

He was born in 1843 in the Canary Islands, although his life and work took place in Madrid. He was a great chronicler of the evolution of classes in the capital of the country and its decline.

They stand out among his main works Fortunata and Jacinta Y Perfect Lady.

Jacinto Octavio Picón
