The subject of a sentence
With this video, we begin with the explanation of the different syntactic functions that we can meet in one simple or compound sentence. This is a very important part of the syntactic or morphosyntactic analysis and that will be very useful for when you have to do it in class.
In this video I will explain what it is the subject of a sentence and how we can identify it. The Subject of a sentence It is the person, animal or thing that performs the action expressed by the verb. To identify it, we will have to ask ourselves who? Who is it? or what?. By answering one of these questions as an answer we will obtain the Subject of that sentence.
It will be necessary to take into account that the Subject it is not always written in the sentence, it may be omitted. We call this Subject Omitted or elliptical subject.
On the other hand, the Subject alone can never form a sentence because it would not make complete sense.
In addition, on our website I have left you some printable exercises with their solutions
so you can practice with the identification of different subjects in many sentences. I hope they help you understand it better!
