Difference between derived words and parasynthetic words
In this video I will explain the difference between derived words and parasynthetic words.
It is easy to confuse parasynthetic and derived words.
1. First type of parasynthetic word: Prefix + Lexeme + Suffix.
Ex. Insociable / intolerant: Derived word
• 1º tolerate >> + suffix -in view of = tolerant
2º in- + tolerant= intolerant
Forming process not a new prefix + suffix combination
• Trick:
NON PARASYNTHETIC PARASYNTHETIC
* in + toler ≠ * em + borrach
toler + before >> existing in the language. * borrach + ad (o)
2. Second type: LEX + LEX + SUFFIX
Eg Telephone operator / North American: Compound word + morph. derivat
• 1st Telephone> telephone-ista
1st North America> North America-an (o)
• Trick: lexeme + lexeme or lexeme + suffix
Phone // * phonist ≠ * Para + caid * caidista
Referral process training no new combination
