Sentences with common and proper noun
It is called noun to that word that is used in Spanish to designate animals, objects, things, thoughts, etc. From the syntactic point of view, andThe noun acts as the nucleus of a noun phrase and, therefore, it is the only essential element so that we can speak of the existence of a noun phrase as such. Generally, the noun is preceded by the determiners that shorten and specify its referent. On the other hand, nouns are also accompanied by adjectives and, both with determiners and with the latter, the adjectives, the noun has to agree in gender and number ("the days sunny "; "The blue car").
In this lesson from a TEACHER we will focus our attention on the sentences with common and proper nouns. First, we are going to study the characteristics of both types of nouns and then see some sentences as examples.
Through common nouns we name the things that exist in the world, around us. Common nouns are used to designate in a generic way (hence its name) the things that surround us.
Therefore, this type of nouns refers to homogeneous sets of things, which are part of the same group and not so much to particular and specific nouns. This is one of the fundamental characteristics that differentiates common nouns from proper nouns, which we will see below.
Proper nouns are those nouns that are used to identify a reality or a specific person within a group of the same species; that is, proper nouns give us the possibility of individualizing a person to distinguish them from the rest.
For this reason, proper nouns are written always with initial capital letter. The best-known proper nouns are personal names (also called anthropospirits): Diego, Carmen, Marta, Juan, Lucía, Irene... etc. All of them always capitalized because they refer to a specific person.
Other examples of proper nouns are place names (or place names), as well as the names of the official institutions of the State, the cardinal points, the most important historical, cultural, economic or political periods, etc.
In this other lesson we discover you what is the abstract noun with examples so that you understand this other type of noun.
