Possibly the most relevant symbol for the States they are the flags, being elements used to represent everything that is a nation and that is used to show the unity of a nation. To begin the lesson on the flags of America we must comment on the flags of the North American countries and the flags of the Central American countries. An interesting fact about these flags is that all of them belong to Central America have a similar origin, since the flag of the Provinces of the Río de Plata served as inspiration for most states in this area, this being the reason why most Central American flags have part of their shape similar to the flag of Rio de the Silver.

The flags of North and Central America are as follows:

  • Canada: Red maple leaf on a white background with two red lines on the sides.

The flags of this subcontinent are usually closely linked to the symbolism born during the Latin American independence in which these regions were separated from their European metropolises, so many of them are very similar to each other.

Examples of these similarities are the States that were part of Greater Colombia, the regions called Guayanas north of the continent, or some nations that at points in their history were part of the same administrative identity as Argentina and Uruguay.

The flags of the sovereign states of South America and its description currently are as follows:

  • Peru: Three vertical lines, two red and the central one white.
  • chili: Two horizontal stripes, the first white and blue with a star in the left corner, the second completely red.
  • Argentina: Three horizontal lines, two blue and the one with the white center, in the center of the flag a Sun of May.
  • Paraguay: Three horizontal lines, the first red, the central white and the third blue, having a shield in its center.
  • Uruguay: Numerous blue and white lines, with a Sun of May in the upper left corner.
  • Bolivia: Three horizontal lines, the first being red, the central yellow and the bottom green.

Before concluding this lesson of such relevance we must talk about the flags of the most relevant dependencies that we find in the American zone. Dependencies are regions that they do not have their own autonomya, depending in part on another State. The main flags of the American dependencies are the following:

  • Bermuda: Red background with the British flag in one corner and the Bermuda crest on the other side.
  • Greenland: Two white and red horizontal stripes and a circle of the same colors.
  • Clipperton Island: The same flag as the French one.
