Shortly after, and at God's direction, Abraham and Sarah traveled to Egypt, being the place where Abraham realized the beauty of his wife. People say that Abraham hid Sarah in a trunk so that no one would see it, but it is said that some officers forced Abraham to open the trunk and when they saw the Sara's beauty all the officers competed to buy it and she finally she was brought to the very Pharaoh. The couple posed as brothers causing the pharaoh to give Sara many gifts to try win her love, but after realizing that the two were actually married they were expelled from the region. It is said that all those people who tried to possess Sarah were cursed by God, who did not accept that anyone tried to take a married woman.

After years of wandering Egypt, the couple returned to Canaan to spend the rest of their lives in the area, building an altar to God that they visited every day. It was at this stage that Sarah offered her slave to Abraham, so that the follower of God could have a child as Sarah was sterile. Of the relationship between the slave Hagar and Abraham Ismael was born, being a character of great importance in the biblical tradition.

When Abraham reached 99 years of age, he and his wife received a visit from God, who told them that his promise would be fulfilled shortly, and that Sara could father a son. This fact is of great relevance, since it makes Sarah in the only female prophet who received the visit of God, thereby showing the great relevance of it. The son of the couple was Isaac, being a key piece for the evolution of religion.

In partnering with Isaac, men and women in the area who were aware of Sara's infertility said that he was a adopted child and that it really wasn't some kind of miracle that would have made Sara capable of having a child. To show the truth, Abraham and Sarah called everyone to her home, and there Sarah fed them all the children of the guests, thereby proving that the real son had been born from Sara's womb thanks to a miracle of God.

When Isaac was a child, Abraham received the message from God, who asked him to sacrifice Isaac to show the love he had for the Lord. It is said that Abraham was about to sacrifice his son, but then the angel Gabriel appeared who told the servant of God to stop his hand since that was a test from God, who therefore promised Abraham that his offspring would have a great life.

In some sources, Isaac's attempted sacrifice is very attached to the death of Sara, there is a version in which they tell her that Abraham has killed Isaac and Sarah dies of sadness, and another version in which Sarah dies of joy when she discovers that her husband has not killed Isaac.

Even with that, most sources speak that Sara died much later, when Isaac was already much older, since there are many cases in which religious texts have several versions.
