What is the Bible?

The Bible is what we call a sets of texts called books that were written by some of the most important characters of the Catholic religion, being a heterogeneous book with even several languages ​​in its original texts, such as Greek or Hebrew. Here we tell you who wrote the bible so that you better know its authorship.

Today, the Bible has been translated into all languages, being common to speak of it as the most edited and sold book of the history of mankind, and therefore being one of the most important religious texts.

Being a book written over the years and by many different authors we cannot speak of a specific date, being dated his first texts in 1450 a. C. and its last chapters in the first century after the death of Christ.

The books of the Old Testament.

When approaching a classification of the books of the Bible we must take into account their two large parts, being the Old Testament and the New Testament, occurring in the Old Testament the creation of the worldand the life of the Hebrew people until the arrival of Jesus, and in the New Testament the life of Jesus and the later importance of him.

The old testament contains 39 books different, which are usually divided into a specific classification that we are going to comment on below.

Pentateuch

It is the way in which the first 5 books of the Bible, being attributed to Moses and narrating the first moments of Christianity. The 5 books that make up the Pentateuch are the following:

  • Genesis: It narrates the creation of the world, Noah's ark, the tower of Babel, and the life of Abraham and his descendants.
  • Exodus: The birth and life of Moses from his departure from Egypt with the Hebrew people, the origin of the commandments and the march of God's people to his new home.
  • Levitical: A series of laws and norms that must be followed in rituals and that must be followed by priests.
  • Numbers: The path of the Hebrew people through the desert in search of the land promised by God.
  • Deuteronomy: It narrates the end of Moses' life and the encounter of God's people with his new home.

Historical books

Historical books are those books of the Bible that tell history from the death of Moses until the Maccabean revolution against the Hellenists. These books have great historical value, dealing with topics about the Hebrew people that help us to learn about very important historical events. There are many books that make up this class, so we must name them below:

Sapiensal books

They are the books that are between the historical and the written by the prophets and they are named after their great spiritual content, which were formed by the following:

Classification of the books of the Bible - The books of the Old Testament

New Testament.

To continue with this lesson on the classification of the books of the Bible, we must talk about the second part of the holy book, this being the so-called New Testament. This second part is where the life of jesus and the first decades of Christianity's existence.

There are different ways to divide this part, but as a general rule the first texts are called Gospels, being stories of the apostles very different from the rest of the texts. In total the New Testament is made up of 27 books, although some religions do not take all of them as canonical, so sometimes we see only 22 books mentioned.

New Testament Organization

  • The first texts are the Gospels, being the texts that narrate the life of Jesus from the view of four different people, meeting in these some of the most important moments of the life of Jesus.
  • After this we find theActs of the Apostles, being a book that narrates the foundation of the Christian Church and its expansion through the Roman Empire.
  • After this we find at epistles, being letters written by relevant figures of Christianity whose recipient should be the Christian people in general.
  • Finally there is the book called Apocalypse or Revelations, being a prophetic book where the end of the world is discussed, explaining how it will arrive according to the Christian vision.
