What is the Odyssey

In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain "What is the Odyssey ".

What is the Odyssey. The Odyssey is a Greek epic poem, composed of 24 songs that is attributed to the Greek poet Homer. It is believed that it was composed during the S. XIII a. C. in the Greek settlements of Asia Minor. There is another theory that states that it was composed in S. XII a. C. from poems that described parts of the current work. That is, there were several poems and someone put them all together to make up what we know today as "The Odyssey." In any case, it does not matter much if it is from the 12th or 13th century, because what really matters is the work itself. We have to say that "The Odyssey" tells the story of the Greek hero Ulysses Odysseus (depending on how we want to say it, in Greek or in Latin) of his return from the Trojan war. That is, in the "Iliad" the Trojan war is described and in "The Odyssey" it is described how Ulysses returns from the war to his house (which was on the island of Ithaca, where Ulysses himself is the king) .

Ulysses is 10 years fighting in Troy and another 10 years to return home. The Odyssey narrates those 10 years that Ulysses took to go from Troy to Itica. He also tells that he spent in Ithaca during his absence and that Telemaco (his son) and Penelope suffered. (his wife from him) because on the island, there were many suitors who wanted to take away the throne because they believed it dead.
