Who was Fernando de Magallanes. Fernando de Magallanes was an important navigator of Portuguese origin. In fact, he was one of the greatest explorers of his time. He was the first European to he managed to cross the Pacific and had a very important role in the circumnavigation of the globe. Fernando de Magallanes was born in 1480 in Portugal and died in 1521 in the Philippines. He was the son of a wealthy Portuguese family but, at an early age, his parents died leaving the orphan and it was then that he entered the court of the Portuguese king in Lisbon as a page. A short time later, in 1505, given his interest and his good work in navigation, he entered the Portuguese expeditions in India and Africa. In 1511, Fernando de Magallanes, was part of the fleet that arrived in Malacca and conquered it. Malacca is the Malay Peninsula and he is part of this expedition that he manages to conquer, for the Portuguese king, Malacca. In 1513 he is wounded in such a way that he remains lame for life.
