Summary of the opium war

In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain a "Summary of the Opium War".

Summary of the opium war. The opium wars are two military conflicts that occurred at the end of the 19th century between the British Empire and the Chinese Empire. The first conflict goes from 1839 to 1842 and the second, in which part of the British Empire is allied with France, goes from 1856 to 1860. China's defeat in the two conflicts forces the Chinese government to allow free trade with European powers to be allowed in various ports in China. as well as the cession of territories to said powers. It all started in the 16th century with the arrival of the Portuguese to Boa and they founded a port there where trade was allowed. China had always been very closed in on itself and tried to limit contact with foreign powers as much as possible. In fact, they charged very high taxes on the products they sold to European powers. These had very little profit in the sale of tea, silk, porcelain... and what they did (having learned the hand bill of opium from the Mongols) decided to monopolize the sale of opium to China so that, with those profits, they could offset the losses they had when they traded with other products.
