The Triple Alliance, one of the sides of the First World War.

The Triple Alliance is one of the sides that fought in the First World War. It was the union of different countries and initially formed by the German Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire on the initiative of Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck.

This first pact was formed in 1882. Later the Russian Empire was invited to be part of this but the neighboring tension with the neighboring country Austria - Hungary made that agreement not fruitful. So much so that Russia turned its international policy around and went on to ally with France and the United Kingdom, enemies of Germany.

Faced with such a situation, Germany decided to join Italy to this alliance, the Italians accepted and the union culminated with the signing of these three countries in 1887. However, at the outbreak of World War I, Italy declared itself neutral, failing to comply with the obligations to her allies and finally intervened later as a member of the opposing side, the Triple Entente.

This alliance is also called Central Powers by the position occupied by Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire on the European continent.

The Russian Empire joined this alliance due to its territorial aspirations in the Balkans, by like Austria - Hungary, which prevented a great alliance of empires as Otto Von wished Bismarck.
