What are resonant structures

Welcome to UnProfesor, in today's video we will see what they are resonant structures.

As we have seen, Lewis structures They allow us to explain the behavior of many molecules, but there are some that have not yet been solved.

An example of this would be the Ozone molecule. if we draw Lewis structureWe know that oxygen belongs to group 6 or 16, therefore there are 6 valence electrons for 3 atoms, and that means that we have 18 electrons, that is, 9 pairs of electrons.

In this case, the central atom, since all the same, it is one of the oxygens. So we find a central oxygen atom, and is linked by single bonds with the other oxygens. Of the 9 pairs of electrons, we have already located 2, we are missing 7 pairs of electrons.

If you have any questions or comments about resonant structures, you can do it through our page. And if you want to practice more, you will find below this video, some printable exercises with solutions for you to do.
