What are algae
In this BIOLOGY video we will talk about "Algae".
Algae are one of the types of most diverse organisms that exist. They are part of the kingdom of the protists. Yes, algae are not properly vegetable although... like them, they do photosynthesis. Algae are self-nourishing beings. That is, they only need an inorganic carbon source (such as carbon dioxide) and sunlight to be able to nourish themselves and thus grow, reproduce and perform all their vital functions.
Now, we are going to see that there are algae of very different colors depending on the type of wavelength that is most sensitive when capturing. In general, before entering into the classification of these algae, we will say that they are very diverse beings that range from microscopic sizes (unicellular algae that are the ones that form the cytoplankton) to become algae of more than 50 meters.
We are talking about those kelp forests that exist at the underwater level. Not to be confused with coral reefs. Many times we confuse a coral reef with algae
. It is reasonable because many times they establish symbiosis (coral reefs, which although it may not seem like it, are animals) with algae (which are algae, not animals). Algae can be found in both fresh and salt water. If you want to know more about the subject of algae, do not miss this video and practice with the exercises that we have on our website.
