Discriminant and number of solutions of quadratic equations

In this video I will explain the discriminant and number of solutions of quadratic equations. The discriminatingof a quadratic equation is the factor that appears within the square root in the formula of the equations.

Look at the images:

Formula of the quadratic equation:

Discriminating:

According to the discriminant we can know thenumber of solutions of a quadratic equation:

  • No solution: if the discriminant is less than 0.
  • A twofold solution: if the discriminant equals 0.
  • Two different solutions: if the discriminant is greater than 0.

In the video I explain everything in more detail and with examples of each of the types of solutions of equations of the second degree according to the discriminant.

Also, if you want to practice what you learned in today's lesson, you can do the printable exercises with their solutions that I have left you on the web.
