Veni Vidi Vici, by Julius Caesar: meaning and historical context of the phrase

The Latin phrase Come. Vidi. Vici. it was attributed to Julius Caesar when, after a hard battle, he communicated to the Roman Senate a conquest he had made over an enemy army.

In Spanish this phrase can be translated as "I came, I saw and I won", and in English the most frequent translation is "I came, I saw, I conquered". Often used in common parlance to briefly express the fact of having been successful in some matter.

The phrase Come. Vidi. Vici It was used by Julius Caesar to refer to a victory of his army over Pharnaces II, king of Pontus, in the year 47 BC. by C.

The prayer can have two different interpretations: on the one hand, it can be read as a celebration of Julius Caesar, who in fact emerged victorious from the battle. On the other hand, it can be understood as a threat, a way of proclaiming his control over the army.

At 16 years of age, Julius Caesar lost his father and had to help raise his two sisters. Two years later, he married Cornelia and had a daughter named Julia.

Known for his strategic intelligence and his privileged upbringing, Julius Caesar contributed to the expansion of the Roman Empire. Due to his military conquests, he has been considered one of the main military leaders in the world. He has also been recognized as a speaker and even wrote some books, diaries and poems.

Julius Caesar's personal life

It is said that Julius Caesar was Cleopatra's lover. Some say that the leader was also bisexual and that he had had a relationship with King Nicomedes IV of Bithynia.

Another curious fact revolves around his hair. According to a widespread legend, Julius Caesar was ashamed of his baldness and for that reason he wore a different hairstyle. In fact, even today hairdressers and stylists use the expression Caesar haircut.

In the calendar, the month of July was named like this to pay tribute to Julius Caesar.

In 2002, a biopic (or biographical film) about the life of this important Roman political and military leader, titled Caesar. The film was directed by Uli Edel and starred by Jeremy Sisto in the role of Julius Caesar.

This film tells how Julius Caesar must flee from Rome in the time of Sulla and how, years later, through cunning and force, he defeats his adversary and becomes the dictator of Rome.
