The work of The foundation

instagram story viewer
develops around the story of five men: Tomás, Asel, Lino, Max and Tulio. These men believe they are housed in a place known as "The Foundation." The five of them share a room in that place and they usually go out every afternoon for a walk in the patio, which has become their daily routine.

However, one day Tomás decides to stay in the room and realizes that something strange is happening. He discovers that there is a sick man at the foundation and who has not eaten for several days. As time goes by, Tomás begins to notice that more and more strange things happen, such as changes in the arrangement of objects in the room. In addition, he discovers that the foundation manager locks the door every afternoon and smells an unpleasant odor that he seems to come from the bathrooms, although he cannot confirm it.

These disturbing situations follow one after another, confirming the suspicion that something is not right on the site in which they are living. Days later, the manager discovers that the sick man has already been dead for six days and that, until now, no one had noticed. However, that same day, Tomás claims to have heard the voice of the supposedly dead man moments before the manager arrived, which is why he is surprised to hear the news. So the protagonist begins to blame his roommates, throwing them in the face that they did not feed the sick man during those days.

Over time, the 5 characters end up discovering that they are not in a foundation, but are political prisoners sentenced to death. After the sick man's death, Tomás blames his cellmates for it and even tries to take his own life. Failing to do so, he decides to create an alternate reality in his mind in which his cell becomes a luxurious room and he invents a girlfriend named Berta. Tomás lives in a fantasy world and although his cellmates do not fully trust him, they do not dare to reveal the truth about his fictional environment.

Summary of the Buero Vallejo Foundation: second part.

Asel, Lino, Max and Tulio plan escape from jail, but the only way to achieve this is to be transferred to the punishment cells. They expect to be sent to these dark cells, since after the death of the sick man, Tomás accused them of murder. Then they begin to suspect that one of the five is betraying them and that is the reason why they never get transferred. Suspicions increase when Tulio is transferred without prior information and finally he is executed. They all come to the conclusion that Tomás is the mole, although he is still immersed in his fantasy world.

For Tomás, everything begins to change after Tulio's death and little by little he comes back to reality. Together with Asel and Lino, they manage to gather evidence that points to Max as the traitor, a suspicion that is finally confirmed. They don't understand why Max has betrayed them in exchange for a few small improvements in prison conditions. Fortunately, Max only knew of the existence of an escape plan, but he was unaware of the details.

Asel and Tomás are interrogated and under physical torture, they finally confess. The jailer returns to question Asel again, but aware that he will not be able to withstand another questioning, Asel makes the decision to take his own life. In the midst of the chaos generated by this desperate act, Lino seizes the opportunity to murder Max, throwing him into the void.

Tomás, for his part, once again pretends to be crazy to save his life and have the possibility to complete the escape plan. However, everything comes to an end when they are transferred to an unknown place, without knowing if it is a punishment cell or if they are being taken to their own execution.
