AXIS Powers in World War II
The Second World War is considered as the greatest war conflict of the history of humanity, and that is why it is so important to talk about the sides that faced each other in this war. One of the sides was that of the Axis Powers, being the ones that started the conflict by invading Poland, and therefore being the cause of this enormous war. For all this, below we must talk about the Axis Powers in World War II.
Is called Axis Powers to the group of nations that faced the allies In the Second World War. These nations were mainly:
- Germany
- Italy
- Japan
But, as the years went by, other nations joined to this side for different reasons. There are several reasons why these nations joined together to form this side, but among the main ones are the ideological coincidences of being part of the called fascist countries, considering that the League of Nations treated them badly, or the desire to conquer new territories in order to increase their trade and economy.
The first time the term Axis was used was by the leader of Italy,
Mussolini, who said that both Germany and Italy formed an axis around which all of Europe rotated. The alliance between these two nations was demonstrated in the Pact of Steel in 1939, a pact that would cause Italy to enter World War II.Already in 1940 the signing of the Tripartite Pact, in which the two European nations signed a pact with Japan, forming the triangle that will direct the Axis Powers to its end.
To talk about the Axis Powers in World War II we must begin by talking about the three main countries that made up this group, being the nations that we usually associate with this side.
Germany
Germany is the main Axis power, the country that started the war and the nation with the largest and most developed army of the conflict. In 1933, Adolf Hitler He used all means to end the Weimar Republic. establishing what is known as the Third Reich, in what was a dictatorship of Nazi ideology. Little by little he attacked countries, until he invaded Poland to start World War II.
Italy
Italy began to be a fascist state after Benito Mussolini came to power in 1922, creating a dictatorship in which all decisions passed through him. In 1939, and after several approaches due to their similar ideology, Italy agreed with Germany the Pact of Steel, causing them to enter the Second World War on the side of the Axis Powers shortly after. Italy was the weakest of the three great Axis powers, and was the first to be defeated.
Japan
Japan had become a nation of fascist ideology and, shortly before the Second World War, it was facing Russia and China. In 1930, the Germans and Italians signed the tripartite pact with Japan, since Hitler considered them to be good allies to confront the USSR and the United States. It was with the latter that Japan had the greatest problems, since after bombing an American base, they entered a war that was defeated by the United States, but not before using nuclear bomb on the Japanese population.
Although we have already talked about the three main powers, we must understand that there were other members of the Axis Powers who, although they played a minor role, also participated in the war. Some of these members were the following:
- Hungary: After seeing the influence of the Germans on the Balkans, the Hungarians decided to join the side of the Axis, especially after they were told that they were going to receive several of the territories in quarrel.
- Romania: The Roman rulers carried out actions similar to fascist ones, with a dictatorship in which power was controlled through the army and oppression. For this reason, the leader of Romania joined Germany as one of the Axis Powers.
- Bulgaria: The Bulgarian tsar Boris III was one of the people who most supported Hitler in his clash with the League of Nations, so it is not strange that after starting the war he joined the side of the Germans.
- Finland: The Finnish nation had been fighting the Russians for years, as it had fought for its independence for years, which is why it joined the Germans when they invaded the USSR.
- Thailand: It was one of Japan's greatest allies in the war, since they thought that supporting the Axis was a good way to expel the French and English from Asia.
- Iran: Iran had been trying to expel the United Kingdom from its land for years, and joined the Germans as they considered it the best way to provoke this.
- Iraq: Iraq had been fighting the British for years, so an alliance with the Germans was logical in order to expel the British from its territory.
