What are the demonstrative adverbs.

The demonstrative adverbs They are words used to indicate the location, direction or distance of an object or action, with respect to the sender or receiver. These adverbs tell us the way in which something is related in terms of closeness or distance and are a very important part of the grammar of the Spanish language.

Demonstrative adverbs can be classify into 3 different grades:

  • First degree demonstrative adverb: Here. Indicates proximity to the speaker. For example: Here I have the keys to the house. Take them and open the door.
  • Second degree demonstrative adverb: There. The place is not within reach of the speaker or is closer to the listener. For example: But, don't you see the pencil? This there, at your side.
  • Third degree demonstrative adverb: Over there. Indicates a greater distance or distance from the speaker and listener. For example: Are you going to travel to the Canary Islands? Over there the weather is always good.

You should keep in mind that there are some demonstrative adverbs that are used more or less depending on the region in which we find ourselves. For example, in Latin America they use the demonstrative adverb ACÁ instead of HERE.
