Difference between homonymous and paronym words
In this video I will explain the difference between homonymous and paronym words. These two types of words are often easily confused, and for this reason I think this explanation will be helpful.
First of all we will have to take into account what are homonymous words Y what are paronyms:
- homonymous words: are those words that have a different form, origin and meaning but that with the evolution of the language have ended up having the same shape or pronunciation and have maintained their meaning and origin different. For example, cow / roof rack.
- stop words: They are the words that are written similarly and have different pronunciation and meanings. For example, attitude / aptitude.
You will understand this explanation much better with the video since I will explain more examples that illustrate it.
In addition, I will explain to you the use of the paronyms in poetry with a resource called paronomasia.
If you want to practice what you have learned in this video, you can do the printable exercises with their solutions
