How many kinds of sentences are there

Surely you have noticed how we change our intentionality when we want to say something. That is, if your intention is to force someone to do something, you will use language in a very different than if your attitude, for example, is of affection towards a loved one and you want to show it with words. That is why we say that there are various kinds of sentences according to the attitude of the speaker.

In this lesson from a TEACHER we will discover how many kinds of sentences are there analyzing precisely those attitudes towards other people when we speak or require something from them. Sometimes we affirm and other times we deny, sometimes we question and express desire, but not always. that we can expose doubts, give advice to another person, make a request or a direct order. Be that as it may, there are expressions for everything, and the language and sentences that we construct will be the ones that set the tone, as we see below.

To find out how many kinds of sentences there are, we will start with the

declarative since they are probably the most common. These imply an attitude on the part of the issuer of information.

That is, when you are going to talk about a specific fact, you use a specific statement. Thus, within these declarative sentences we find two large groups, negative and affirmative. Let's see what each one consists of with a small example:

• Affirmative enunciative sentence: used when a fact is stated with varying degrees of firmness. As an example, it can serve: You left me the Don Quixote book in January - I'll give you back your comics.
• Negative declarative sentences: just as a fact can be affirmed, it can also be denied with more or less certainty: Your brother hasn't stopped by this afternoon - I don't like mints.

Another of the large groups of sentences that are used according to the attitude of an issuer are the interrogatives. Obviously, we are not perfect, so we do not know everything about everything and everyone at any time, so there will be situations in which we have to ask.

In this case, the interrogative sentences are also divided into two main groups, which contain a form direct and those that are used in a way hint. We see it with a few simple examples:

• The direct interrogative sentence when the question goes between interrogations and without preambles or various tricks: When did you buy that beautiful shirt? - What are you going to wear to the party?
• Rather, we use the indirect interrogative sentenceswhen the question is not direct, for example: I would like to ask you about your brother - I would like to know what you will do this afternoon.

Let us now see the last case in which we find sentences of different types within the same group, here speaking of the imperatives.

Imperative sentences are used when the issuer issues an order. In general, the verb is conjugated in the imperative mood, although the future simple, the infinitive preceded by A or the present indicative can also be used. In addition, there are negative imperative phrases or prohibitions. Let's see the cases:

• A normal imperative sentence would: Put all your clothes on the bed - Shake the tablecloth from the food.
• In case of using the future simple, we can conjugate like this: You will do everything I tell you before five in the afternoon - You will go up and down these steps ten times.
• For the infinitive preceded by A we have these examples: To eat everyone! - All the class to shut up!
• In the case of present indicative, we can exemplify with these sentences: You give me the game because I said so - You open the book to page 6 or you leave class.
• Finally, in the case of negative imperatives, we conjugate in present subjunctive: Do not say that I had warned you. Or we can use the future indicative: You will not do the exercises until six in the afternoon.
