Unappreciative or unexpressive suffixes
In this video we are going to deal with the second type of suffixes and they are the ones that do not carry any evaluation of size, affection, etc. They are suffixes that will normally carry a change in grammatical category.
Suffixes that do not have a category change:
- Denominal nouns: are those names that derive from other names.
- Deadjetive adjectives: they are adjectives derived from other adjectives.
- Deverbal verbs: verbs that are derived from other verbs.
The suffixes that do modify the category are:
- Nominalization: the base is adjectives that are transformed into nouns
- Adjectives: denominational adjectives, deverbal and deadverbial adjectives
- Verbalization: denominal verbs as adjectives
- Adverbialization: is the creation of adverbs that follow the common rule
Up to here the theoretical explanation in the video you will see many examples that will help you better understand the unappreciative suffixes. Also, now you can do practical exercises to put into practice what you have learned. I am also at your disposal to answer any questions you may have.
