Poem All the love letters are ridiculous by Álvaro de Campos (Fernando Pessoa)
Álvaro de Campos was two heteronyms by Fernando Pessoa (1888 - 1935), considered two more important names for poetry and Portuguese literary criticism.
Pioneiro do modernismo in Portugal, or a poet who wrote about many subjects, including the most universal of all: or love.
All the love letters are ridiculous
All the love letters are
Ridiculous.
Não seriam love letters se não fossem
Ridiculous.I also wrote my love letters,
As so others,
Ridiculous. As love letters, love is made,
Tem to be
Ridiculous.But, finally,
Only creatures that never will believe
Love letters
What são
Ridiculous.Quem dera me no tempo em que escrevia
Sem dar by isso
Love letters
Ridiculous. To be true, what do you do?
As minhas memories
Dessas love letters
What são
Ridiculous.(All the words are spectral,
As the feelings esduxulos,
São naturally
Ridiculous.)
Analysis and interpretation of the poem
We are facing a modernist poem, something that becomes notorious without its formal freedom: irregular stanzas and metrics, absence of rhymes, vocabulary next to colloquial linguagem, etc.
Using terms that were not common to poetry, the verses reflect on a love theme through a singular point of view.
Something that stands out immediately is in existence idea that is repeated long year of all composition, as I know or little subject is trying to prove a tese.
All the love letters are
Ridiculous.
Não seriam love letters se não fossem
Ridiculous.
You initial verses say a sentence: na visão do eu-lrico, as love letters are, by nature, ridiculous. Isso is never questioned, it comes up like um acquired dice, something that I do know generally. This statement, even more at the time, could sound heavy or provocative.
I also wrote my love letters,
As so others,
Ridiculous.
Logo in the second stanza, or subject is included nessa matter and confesses that, not passed, I also wrote letters assim. Going back, the barnacle that the declarations of love to him were ridiculous all the others.
As love letters, love is made,
Tem to be
Ridiculous.
Returning to his theory of him, the third stanza or little subject explains that, when there is a true love, and impossible to outline this tom overly sentimental.
At the end, it is your own love letters, repeating clichés and transferring emotions; They cannot be any other way.
But, finally,
Only creatures that never will believe
Love letters
What são
Ridiculous.
A fourth stanza helps the reader to understand the real meaning of the poem. It was tied there, it seemed that we are undergoing a criticism of romantic sentimentality, these verses to the situation are altered.
Here, or eu-lrico concluded that, not really, ridiculous are so people who never express their emotions in a way that is simple, sincere and free from barreiras. A criticism seems to be, then, à frieza, tell them that we may others because never fade.
Quem dera me no tempo em que escrevia
Sem dar by isso
Love letters
Ridiculous.
Im followed, ele vai mais longe e assume that tem saudades desses temposLembrando with nostalgia for an innocent and hopeful past.
At a time when it was due to love correspondence, or subject to no such modesty or dry awareness that it would be ridiculous if there were two others.
To be true, what do you do?
As minhas memories
Dessas love letters
What são
Ridiculous.
Agora, more mature and more cynical, or poetic subject seems to feel ashamed of the words that he previously wrote. Nesta stanza, he acknowledges that here he is really pathetic or how do you remember tudo isso, possibly with some aversion or rancor.
Or that it seems to have changed as a time is the way in which you face and live or love feelings. It is suggested that this individual became more dated and unable to communicate in a very intense and genuine way.
(All the words are spectral,
As the feelings esduxulos,
São naturally
Ridiculous.)
Na final stanza, or eu-lyrical face a summery that falou us verses acima, as its explanation is reinforced through um tom mais confessional.
Thus romantic letters can provoke strangeness and até scannio naquele that lê: for that it is of fora, to mensagem it becomes comic, honeyed and até absurd. A paixão é, aliás, made by snatch and dominate the individuals, I raise you to commit the most unexpected or incomprehensible.
Also, loving can also represent a certain loss of rationality, abandoning two behaviors that are considered normal. And all the feelings that lead us to challenge as conventionsAs well as the words we use to express them, it may seem bizarre to say the least.
To your intention and to communicate or incommunicable: translate by words what you take into account of the heart, proving to insufficient language to squeeze as emoções mais fortes.
Ace love letters from Fernando Pessoa
To complete our analysis, it is interesting to note that Pessoa really wrote many love letters for Ofélia Queiroz, the only lover of whom we know.
In 1920, he began to exchange correspondence with young people, sending dozens of romantic tickets that I have found published.
With his words from him, he was evident or took meigo, twelve and a child of the great poet of the Portuguese language when he addressed a beloved woman.
