Mediterranean Sea.
It is the sea located between Europe, Asia and Africa. It is considered one of the most important seas in the world due to its relevance in the history of human civilization. It was for many the center of the known world, and thanks to it many civilizations were able to prosper, being the cradle of several of the greatest civilizations in the world.
Have a length of almost 4000 km, being the fourth largest sea in the world and hosting most of the important islands in Europe.
The Mediterranean Sea bathes the coast of Spain from Algeciras to Cabo de Creus, and determines the climate of much of the country. It is a very extensive sea, which causes it to have different divisions, although in this lesson the part of the sea to which we are going to give more importance is the one near the Iberian Peninsula.

Balearic Sea.
It is a coastal sea that is part of the Mediterranean Sea, so it could be said that it is more a submarine than a real sea, like the Alboran Sea and the Sardinian Sea. It is located in the eastern part of the Peninsula, between the Balearic archipelago and the Levantine coast.
In it are the Islands belonging to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca, Cabrera, Menorca) and the Columbretes Islands, belonging to Castellón.
Alboran Sea.
It is the westernmost part of the Mediterranean Sea. It limits to the north with the coast of the Iberian Peninsula, to the south with the north coast of the African continent and to the west with the Strait of Gibraltar. The Alboran Sea has a length of 350 km and a width of 180 km, and an average depth of 1000 meters, and a maximum depth of more than 2000 meters. In this sea there are several small islands, among which the island of Alboran stands out.

Sea of Sardinia.
The last sea of Spain that is part of the Mediterranean It is the Sea of Sardinia. It is located between the island of Sardinia and the Balearic archipelago. It has a length of approximately 420 km, and a maximum depth greater than 3,000 meters. In this sea there are also several islands, the main ones being San Pietro and SantÁntioco, the first with an area of 108.9 km2 and the second with an area of 108.9 km2.
Anaga-Agaete Canal.
It is the arm of the Atlantic Ocean that separates the islands of Tenerife and Gran CanariaTherefore, like the sub-seas, it cannot be considered a complete sea. It has an area of approximately 68.16 kilometers. It is important to know that this arm of the sea separates the Canary provinces of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas.

Cantabrian Sea.
Continuing with this lesson on the names of the seas of Spain we have to talk about one of our two main seas, the Cantabrian Sea. This sea bathes the north coast of Spain, and extreme southwest of the Atlantic coast of France. It extends from the tip of Estaca de Bares, in Galicia, to near the city of Bayonne, in the French Basque Country.
It has a length of 800 km and a maximum depth of 4750 meters. Being a sea much smaller than the Mediterranean Sea, even so its presence is noticeable in much of the country, bathing the Galician, Basque, Asturian, Cantabrian and French coasts.

Atlantic Ocean.
The west coast of the Iberian Peninsula is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. Located between America, Europe and Africa, it is the second largest ocean in the world, occupying 16% of the surface of the globe. It encompasses more than 85,000,000 km2.
It is a very important sea for the history of Spain, since the trip that Christopher Columbus made for him, in which he discovered America, changed the world of the country forever. All the seas that surround Spain are born from this ocean, hence its great importance.
