The second crusade: summary

In this new video from Unprofesor we will explain "The Second Crusade: Summary".

The Second Crusade: Summary. The second Crusade it was the second major military campaign in a series of campaigns called "Crusades" that took place between the SXI and SXIII. They wanted to reconquer by the Christian states of the West, the Holy Land in the Middle East. We have to... thanks to the first crusade, on the fringe of what is now Palestine, they had constituted the kingdom of Jerusalem, the principality of Antioch, the county of Edessa and the county of Tripoli

Well... in 1144 the county of Edessa falls, giving rise to the convocation of the second crusade by Pope Eugene III. That is, the Muslims reconquer Edessa from Christian hands and Pope Eugene III calls a crusade to reconquer the county of Edessa again. To this crusade then, they join Louis VII of France and Emperor Conrrado II of the Holy Roman-Germanic Empire. They reunite two great armies that, each one by his side, are going to converge in Constantinople and from here, jumping the bosphorus they happen to the peninsula of Anatolia. There, both armies are defeated by the Seljuk Turks.

Very bad stretches and with many lossesyes, they make it to Jerusalem. Very defeated and with forces that had nothing to do with what they had been. This defeat was the one that later allowed the reconquest, by the Muslims, of Jerusalem in 1187.
