In some plants the gene involved in the development of these organs doubled to create two quite similar copies. After analyzing the evolution of the different species of flowering plants, it has been concluded that this duplication took place 120 million years ago.

The use of this gene in different ways depending on the plant is due to an amino acid, genes are very similar but their proteins do not always have this amino acid. If this amino acid exists, the protein can only make male parts, while if it is not it is capable of be related to other genes involved in flower production, and this makes it possible to develop male organs and female.

Research is the perfect example to show that an imperfection is capable of causing evolutionary changeAlthough, thanks to this type of failure, the diversity of species arises without which it would not be possible to develop new species.

This mutilation in the genes manages to fool the plant and insert an extra amino acid. This situation means that a modification at first glance can make a huge difference in the reproductive organs of plants.

It is still unknown if this mutation is near the end or if it will instead cause new complexities in any other part of the plant structure.
