Parts of derived words: lexemes and morphemes

In this video I will explain the parts of derived words: lexemes and morphemes. We will remember first that they were derived words. You can see this in the previous video: what are derived words.

The derived words They are mainly made up of two parts:

  • the root or lexeme: part of the word that does not change and with full meaning.
  • the morpheme: which completes the meaning of the root. There are two types of morphemes: prefixes (written in front of the stem) and suffixes (written after the stem).

Keep in mind that a word can only have a single root or lexeme but it can have more than one morpheme.

You will understand this explanation much better if you watch the video since I will give you examples in which you can see the lexemes and morphemes of different words.

Also, if you want to continue learning how to separate words into lexemes and morphemes you can do the printable exercises with their solutions that I have left you on the web. I hope they help you!
