direct type in written language, exclamation mark, which in the case of Spanish has an opening (!) and a closing (!). In addition to being accompanied by exclamatory words that will help us to identify them as they can be:

  • Where

Indirect exclamatory sentences - With examples - What are exclamatory sentences

We already know what exclamatory sentences are and have learned to identify direct exclamatory sentences. Now it is our turn to face the indirect exclamatory sentences that have a series of peculiarities of their own. This kind of prayers they are always subordinate to others. In other words, indirect exclamatory sentences always depend on another sentence that is the main one.

Indirect exclamatory sentences, in addition to being subordinate, are introduced by an adjective, a pronoun or an exclamatory adverb, that is, they always appear preceded by an exclamatory particle that is accented and that they will be the same as we have indicated above.

Due to the above, these prayers do not have exclamation marks, since the identification is made by means of the exclamatory particles, meaning the intention of the speaker. In order to better understand what indirect exclamatory sentences are, we are going to propose a series of examples that will help you identify them within a sentence. Take note of the following phrases:

You have no idea as it was all when we got back from vacation.

In this case we can distinguish two statements, the first of them is You have no idea, this is the main sentence and it depends on her how was everything when we returned from vacation. As you can see, the prayer does not have exclamation marks, but despite this we can see that it is an exclamatory sentence, yes, indirect. Although the exclamation marks are not shown, we can see that the subordinate clause appears introduced by the particle as which indicates that the message that follows is exclamatory.

Other examples that come to denote the same thing introduced by different particles could be:

Only the one who has been through it before can understand what hard is the recovery process.

As in the previous example, we can see that the exclamatory subordinate clause is introduced by the exclamatory word what.
