"A life without examination is not worth living" is a sentence attributed to the Greek philosopher Socrates (470 a. C. - 399 a. C.) described in the work Socrates' Apology written in the year 399 a. C. by his disciple Plato (427 a. C. - 347 a. C.).

When Socrates argues about the possibility of punish yourself with exile, or according to how the Athenians see it: living far away in silence leading a quiet life, affirms that it is difficult to persuade those present that for him that means disobey god because hegreater good is to converse to examine oneself and others because "a life without examination is not worth living."

“If, on the other hand, I say that the greatest good for a man is precisely this, to have conversations every day about virtue and the other subjects on which You have heard me dialogue when I examined myself and others, and if I say that a life without examination has no purpose in living it for man, you will still believe me less."

Socrates was found guilty by the court of Athens and sentenced to death through hemlock poisoning.
